Phuket Travel Guide: Where to Buy Vacation and Rental Properties

Thailand is one of the most visited countries in the world by tourists. Before the outbreak of the pandemic, more than 30 million people came to the kingdom every year. The region of the country most popular amongst tourists is Phuket. At least 10 million tourists visit the small island every year.

Phuket can be described as a paradise island. Here, the blue water washes up on the white sand beaches, there is well-developed infrastructure, world-class educational institutions, hospitals, wild parties, quiet areas for meditation and much more.

Phuket stretches up to 50 km in length and up to 21 km in width. Most of the island is occupied by low mountains and tropical forests. Many areas of Phuket (including small islands) are located in the area of National Parks, which means that it is impossible to build real estate there. The area of the old city does not attract foreigners when choosing a place to live since there are practically no new buildings there and the beaches are far away. Residential areas on the island are formed around beaches.

The Eastern coast is characterized by a rocky shore with coral reefs located nearby. The West is more suitable for a beach holiday as the coast is dotted with small coves and plenty of sandy beach areas.

There are many beaches on the island that are suitable for people with different tastes and lifestyles. We will tell you more about the main beaches of Phuket below.

Karon Beach is one of the most popular on the island, well-suited to families with children. As one of the largest beaches on the island, it attracts a lot of visitors and can get quite crowded. There is a property just a couple of minutes from the seashore. The beach is clean and the water is clear. There are many shops, cafes and restaurants nearby.

Patong Beach is more suitable for those who enjoy the nightlife. Discos and parties are becoming obsolete here but there are many clubs and bars. It is the center of the island's nightlife.

Kata is a sparsely populated beach with a developed infrastructure, including cafes, restaurants and a diving club. This beach is very quiet but it is the most popular beach among surfers in all of Thailand. During the season, very high waves rise here (up to 2 meters high), which can be unpleasant for many. However, waves do not form all year, mainly during the rainy season (July, August, September). The rest of the year the water is calm.

Kamala is a calm beach with beautiful scenery. There are no restaurants or bars in this area. This is one of the quietest beaches on the island. For this reason, pensioners and families with children often choose it for recreation.

Surin is the most luxurious beach on the island. Nearby there are shopping malls, luxury boutiques, hotels and beauty salons. Restaurants are distinguished by premium prices and the sophistication of dishes. Phuket's most luxurious villas are located nearby.

Bang Tao Beach is also designed for wealthy tourists. It is crowded, largely due to the nearby boutiques, restaurants and bars. This is the longest beach on the island and one of the most developed. There are no tides here, which spoil the rest on many other beaches. The area is well inhabited by expats from Europe and boasts international schools, excellent hospitals and many restaurants with European cuisine. Investors can count on a stable income from real estate in this area.

Mai Khao Beach is located near the airport. It is here that amazing photos are taken with planes landing in the background. The beach is suitable for a relaxing holiday but there are only a few cafes around. The depth of the water starts abruptly and close to the shore, so the beach is not suitable for children. On weekends and holidays, many Thai locals come to the beach. Tourists are often able to catch the moment when planes fly close by for fun action shots. The proximity to the noisy airport may be unpleasant for some vacationers.

Rawai Beach is primarily a port. There are a lot of fishermen, boats and ships. It is not suitable for a beach holiday but here you can enjoy experiencing Thai flavors here. The price of real estate is lower than in other areas. There is no beach infrastructure but there is a local market nearby.

Nai Yang Beach is considered one of the dirtiest, so it attracts few tourists. The infrastructure is poorly developed. The water here is not shallow, the depth begins abruptly at the shore, making it ideal for diving enthusiasts. Moreover, there are few people here and you can enjoy nature in peace.

Tri Trang is a secluded beach, equipped with sun loungers and umbrellas. There are few tourists. However, there are very strong tides here. When the stone sea floor is exposed, it is absolutely impossible to swim. Patong is nearby, with a bustling nightlife.

Chalong Beach is considered unsuitable for swimming, as there are many boats, yachts and ships near the shore. There is a developed infrastructure in this area including many shopping centers, restaurants and bars. Housing prices are lower than in other areas.

Phuket Travel Guide: Where to Buy Vacation and Rental Properties

It is difficult to say which beach is better and where it is more profitable to buy real estate. It all depends on your personal preferences and the goals of your stay in Phuket. Do you like noisy nightlife, sports or yachting? Are you planning to live in Phuket with children? If you choose a property for further rental, then you should consider who you plan to rent to: families with children, youth companies, couples, etc. It is worth thinking about what type of real estate is better to invest in, in each area. For example, a small studio is unlikely to suit a family with children. On beaches less suitable for usual beach holidays, property prices are lower. It is easy to get to other beaches from most of these areas, therefore, it is not necessary to exclude them from the list of possible places to buy a property.

When choosing the Phuket area for buying real estate, we recommend personally visiting the island and living in different parts of it. Travel to all areas. So, you can choose the perfect place for yourself. Real estate specialists of Thailand-Real.Estate will be happy to help you choose and tell you which area will suit you best, especially if you are planning to rent a property.
