Test&Go program. Has Thailand opened its borders?

From February 1, 2022, Test&Go program (test and go) began to operate, which allows you to come to any region of Thailand without mandatory quarantine.

What are the results of the first days of the program? Is the flow of tourists to Thailand high now?

Test&Go program, introduced in February, allows fully vaccinated tourists (including Sputnik-V vaccine) to enter the country without going through a 14-day quarantine. Tourists will still have to book a hotel from SHA++, AQ, OQ or AHQ list, but only for the 1st and 5th day of their stay in the kingdom. It is on these days that PCR testing will be conducted. From the 2nd day, the tourist has the right to move around the country. The program facilitates the process of entering the country and makes it less costly, which gives the right to assume a large influx of tourists.

During the first 10 days of February, 55,823 people entered Thailand: 23,036 of them arrived under Test&Go program, 27,667 people arrived under the Sandbox plan and 5,120 people under the Alternative Quarantine program.

Before the outbreak of the pandemic, an average of 3.3 million people came to Thailand every month, that is, about 110,100 people a day. 56 thousand people who arrived at the beginning of February 2022 is 5% of pre-COVID traffic. The Tourism Authority of Thailand believes that the number of arrivals will gradually increase throughout the year.

The data for the second part of February will show whether the number of tourists will continue to grow or whether the first days of the program were a surge of people wishing to enter the country. The Tourism Authority of Thailand predicts that up to 5 million people will come to Thailand in 2022.
