The Government considers amendments to the law on the property for foreigners

On January 21, the Economic Situation Management Center met to discuss the law on the property for foreign nationals. The public suggested that foreigners could own more than 49% of total area of the property and extend the lease term from 30 to 50 years. These proposals could stimulate the interest of foreign investors and attract more capital to the country.

Interior Minister General Anupong Paochinda disagreed. In his opinion, it is not necessary to amend the law on foreigners' ownership of apartments in condominiums. No decision has been made yet. The matter is likely to be discussed in the future.

As for the land ownership for foreigners, the Land Department will consider ministerial resolutions on the types of investments.
