The Kingdom’s population is close to 70 million, and by early 2022, 74.9% of the population had received at least one dose of the vaccine.
Dr. Opas Karnkavinpong, Director-General of the Morbidity Control Department under the Ministry of Health, said that the country was ready to join the global trend to reduce internal and external restrictions and measures against COVID-19.
Karnkavinpong noted that the daily increase in cases no longer requires strict state control. There are 10,000 new cases per day, less than half the significant figures of August 2021.
The trend turned to decline, despite the spread of Omicron.
In most cases, the disease occurs in conditions of home isolation, and hospital beds in medical institutions are reserved for the most severe cases of the disease.
Despite the desire to simplify the restrictions, the process will take some time and not be uniform. There is a significant imbalance in the easing of restrictions in the provinces popular with tourists.
The government is also developing regulations to make vaccination compulsory for children aged 5 and over, as this category is most vulnerable to disease. Children aged 5 to 11 years can be vaccinated voluntarily.
With a positive trend in national vaccination, with reduced morbidity and symptoms in the new COVID-19 variations, Thailand can see the light at the end of the tunnel and expect a gradual recovery of the country’s tourism sector in the coming years.
