Since May 1, 2022, the Test and Go system has been cancelled for foreign citizens visiting Thailand. To visit Thailand now, you need to have proof of vaccination, register in the Thai Pass Registration system, and prove that you have insurance ranging from $20,000 to $10,000. The PCR test upon arrival in Thailand has also been cancelled, but tourists will need to take a rapid-response test. Unvaccinated tourists will need to have a PCR test certificate no later than 72 hours before their arrival in the country and pass a rapid test.
Currently, there is a marked growth in hotel bookings. 70% of tourists are customers who made a booking during the past two years but were compelled to postpone that visit because of COVID-19 restrictions.
From January to April 19, 2022, 646,812 foreign tourists arrived in Thailand. The number of tourists will rise with the lifting of restrictions.
A significant flow of tourists has usually come from China, but its return to Thailand is not yet expected. China still has not opened its borders and is pursuing a strict, restrictive policy.
However, there is a group of new tourists who will be able to restore the tourism sector in Thailand. These are visitors from India and the Middle East. The well-being of tourists from the Middle East has improved with the help of the oil price increases. Tourists from the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia are expected to visit the country. As for tourists from Asian countries, visitors from Japan, Korea, and Singapore are returning, and the flow is anticipated to grow.
