The state-owned bus operator Transport Co wants to turn part of its land holdings into additional income. The firm has announced that it hopes to lease two of the four plots it owns, and the company is expected to announce a bid in the next few months.
The land provided includes a plot near the Fai Chai intersection on the Thonburi side of Bangkok, which is currently vacant, and a bus station in Chonburi. Both plots are offered to interested parties under a long-term lease agreement for 30 years without the possibility of extension. It is still unknown how many will be interested. The transport company still owns two other sites, including the Bangkok Eastern Bus Station, which is very desirable by many developers, which is located next to Ekkamai station on Sukhumvit Street. Transport Co has announced plans to move this bus station to a more remote area from the center in Bangna district. A plot of land in the Ekkamai area is estimated at about 2.5 billion baht.
Even with the excellent location of the site, it is difficult to imagine that something will be successful here in the short term. The best option would be to turn this place into a public park or a public green area. This is also the most unrealistic option with minimal benefit.
