In 2022 Bangkok will have to pay 100% property tax, Phuket is extending a 90% discount

The Ministry of Finance announced that 100% property tax will be levied in Bangkok from 2022.

In 2020, due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, the Ministry gave a 90% discount on real estate tax to owners of both residential and commercial premises. The tax reduction was also in effect in 2021. This led to a significant decrease in cash receipts to the country's budget. In 2020, THB 7,800,000 was paid in Bangkok, in 2021 it was THB 5,800,000. While in 2022 it is expected to receive up to THB 20,000,000,000, which will be equal to the receipts in 2018.

However, the government will give the opportunity to pay the amount in 3 stages if it exceeds THB 3,000.

Each district center, municipality has the right to give various forms of support to taxpayers, such as a reduced rate for agricultural land, hostels, resorts, etc.

While the municipality of Phuket supported the idea of maintaining a 90% discount on the tax, as the province's economy has not recovered due to the ongoing tourist crisis. At the moment, the idea of extending the amnesty until 2024 is being considered.
