Housing construction costs increase by 6.2%, which is the highest in 5 years

The Real Estate Information Center of Thailand has published an overview of housing construction prices in 2022, which have been steadily increasing since the first quarter, while the standard housing construction price index in the third quarter of 2022 rose to 132.2 points, which is 6.2% higher than in the same period of the previous year. The largest growth in 5 years was caused by the rise in oil prices, which is the reason for the increase in prices for building materials and transportation.

However, there is a tendency to slow down the growth of housing prices. Price growth decreased to 0.8% in the third quarter from 3.9% and 1.1% in the first and second quarters.

If we look at all the points in the rise in the price index for the construction of standard housing in the third quarter of 2022, we find that construction prices have been adjusted for almost every category compared to last year’s prices.

Compared to the previous year, the growth in the construction segment was 8%, while in the category of building materials, there was the greatest growth compared to the previous year: plumbing — 13.2%, steel and steel products — 11.5%, as well as wood and wood products — 9.5%.

In addition, prices for construction work also increased by 5.6% compared to the previous year.

It turned out that only the price of tiles decreased slightly by 3.2% compared to the same period last year.
