The Tourism Authority of Thailand together with the Ministry of Tourism and Sports at the next meeting on April 22 will discuss a proposal to cancel the entry scheme to Thailand Test & Go and the need to obtain an entry permit Thailand Pass.
The Minister of Tourism and Sports said last week that if the changes are approved, then starting from May 1, tourists will be able to enter Thailand only with vaccine passports. There will be no need to wait a few days for Thailand Pass approval. PCR tests are planned to be replaced with an antigen test, which will be carried out at the airport.
The Ministry of Tourism is interested in reopening Thailand to as many tourists as possible.
Proposals to ease restrictions and cancel the Thailand Pass have not yet been discussed by the Cabinet of Ministers of Thailand and have not been approved by the Government.
At the beginning of April, there was an increase in the flow of tourists in Thailand, but even if this indicator in 9 000 – 11 000 tourists per day will remain until the end of the year, then it will be only 8% of the tourist flow before COVID-2019.
The Ministry of Tourism predicts the arrival of at least 10 million foreign tourists and more than 1 trillion baht income from them until the end of 2022. To achieve this goal, the number of tourists arriving should increase on average to 35 000 – 40 000 person per day.
